How To Use & Read Tarot Cards
How to Read Tarot Cards
You picked up a deck for a reason. Maybe it is your first one. You flipped through the pictures and now you want to try a real reading. This is exciting. Tarot can help you reflect on the past, understand the present, and see helpful paths for the future.
You might also feel a bit lost. There are many cards and new words. That is normal. In Tarot we trade fear for trust. By the end of this page you will feel ready to shuffle, place, and read your cards.
What Is Tarot, Anyway
Tarot began as a card game in Europe. People later used the deck for insight. The power of Tarot comes from symbols that feel universal. The pictures help you notice patterns and make clearer choices. Tarot does not fix fate. It supports wise action.
Why Are Some Cards In Suits, While Others Aren't
When you look at your deck, you see two groups. Some cards have names like The Fool or The Sun. These belong to the Major Arcana. The rest look like a playing deck with numbers and court cards. These belong to the Minor Arcana with suits of Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. A full deck has 78 cards: 22 Major and 56 Minor.
What's In The Major Arcana
Major Arcana cards point to big lessons and turning points. If a Major shows up, the moment matters. Cards like Death or The Tower do not mean doom. They speak about change, truth, and release. Names can vary by deck, so read your guide for any twists.

What's In The Minor Arcana
Minor Arcana cards describe daily life. They cover wins, worries, choices, and actions you can take now. Each suit maps to a part of life: Wands for drive and action, Swords for thoughts and choices, Cups for feelings and bonds, Pentacles for work, health, and results. Decks may rename suits, but the ideas stay close.

Ready For A Reading
Reading for yourself is not bad form. It is one of the best ways to learn. Start simple. A three card spread is clear and flexible.
A Three Card Spread How To
Shuffle while you hold one clear question in mind. Cut the deck if that feels right. You can also spread the cards face down and mix them before you pick. There is no single correct shuffle. Your focus is what counts.
Pull three cards from the top and lay them left to right.
Choose a frame and stick to it. You can read them as Past, Present, Near Future or Situation, Action, Outcome. In a love reading, try You, Them, The Relationship. Do not change the rules mid reading.
How To Read The Story
Look closely at each picture. Who is there. What are they doing. Which way do they face.
Note numbers, colors, and suit symbols. These small clues matter.
Say or write your first thought before you check any guide. Your first feeling is gold.
Link the cards. How does card one flow into card two. What next step does card three suggest.
Tip: If a card is reversed, read it as a softer tone, a delay, or an inner process. If reversals confuse you, read all cards upright until you feel ready.
Try It Now
Pause your research. Shuffle. Pull three cards. Tell the story out loud in two or three sentences. End with one small action for today. With practice, you will trust your own voice more each time.
